The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that the Philadelphia Phillies have informed Brett Myers that they will not be bringing him back next season.
Myers met with General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. this afternoon, where he was told the team would not renegotiate with him this offseason.
In the report Myers says: “Actually I’m not as disappointed as I thought I’d be,” Myers said. “I don’t know if it’s because other things are in front of me, blurring my vision. I’m packing and getting ready to drive home (to Jacksonville, Fla.) tomorrow.”
The move is not a surprise, as the Phillies rotation is set 1-through-4 and has several other options for the fifth starter role.
It is unknown whether teams will go after Myers as a starter or loser, but his availability to do both should serve him well in the open market.
In eight seasons with the Phillies Myers went 73-63 with a 4.40 ERA. He had an up and down career but never broke through on his true potential.
The Phillies also announced that they picked up the one-year/$9 million option on Cliff Lee.
