You Can’t Win Them All

Just ask Eddie Jordan, who didn’t win many this year.  From the beginning of the season when he had his first press conference I was worried about Eddie Jordan.  The Sixers showed improvement over the previous two years, but when the “Princeton Offense” was installed it never really was.  It starts at the top, people said I was wrong and I can’t really say I told you so but how would Josh Smith look on this team.  The Sixers were a running team and adding a slow Elton Brand didn’t make much sense.  I’m sure he is a nice guy but why, why is Willie Green in the NBA.  I don’t get it.  I have much more to rant about the Sixers but I dont think anyone really cares.

Now back to the title, you can’t win them all.  The Phillies offense is going to be tops in all of baseball if they stay healthy.  Does this pitching staff scare you?  Aside from Halladay I’m petrified, Cole looks like he will have some promise to be better this season.  I don’t think he will be back to World Series MVP form, but he won’t be as bad as last year. Maybe  somewhere in between, a solid number two.  I don’t feel comfortable about anyone else.  How things are going the bullpen will be spent by July.  Nelson Figueroa looks ok, I have always liked that guy.  Baez scares me to death.  Contreras looks good the movement on his fastball is sick, I am thoroughly impressed.  I’m not even getting into the closer right now.  I’m going to be the one leading the charge for Rueben Amaro to call up our old buddy Ed Wade and get Oswalt at the trade deadline.  He will be useless there. 

A special little something for Brian Boucher,  way to keep the underachievers of the century in the game, and maybe steal a series.  Isn’t there a 2 -7 upset every year?  Also Pittsburgh lost and so did Washington so maybe lightning in a bottle.  One can only hope.  Isn’t it time for another parade?

On a separate side note, I have been often called a “throwback” and seeing the Padres and the Blue Jays game today, I fell back in love.  Those Padres uniforms were the best.  The should keep them for the entire year.  Jersey sales would go through the roof.  (Even if I’m the only one to buy them all)
